Commitment to Pro Bono

Dustin-and-Mike-7-1

Through the Veterans Legal Clinic of Dallas, the attorneys at RegitzMauck have provided legal counseling and representation on a pro bono basis to those that have served our country.

After reading about a Veterans Legal Clinic in Houston in the March 2009 Texas Access to Justice newsletter and determining that Dallas had no corresponding clinic, Mike helped found the Veterans Legal Clinic in Dallas with the support of the Dallas Volunteers Attorneys Program and co-founding firms  Fulbright & Jaworski LLP and Gardere.  The first Veterans Legal Clinic was held in December 2009 at the Dallas VA Medical Center, and at that time, was the second of its kind in Texas.   Through the Texas Lawyers for Texas Veterans program, which was initiated by former State Bar of Texas President Terry Tottenham, veterans legal clinics are now operating throughout Texas to assist veterans with their legal needs.

Dustin served as Chair of the Veterans Outreach Subcommittee of the Dallas Bar Association in 2015, and Mike has twice served as Co-Chair of the Veterans Outreach Subcommittee (2011, 2014).  Mike and Dustin have given numerous presentations to various organizations on the Dallas Veterans Legal Clinic and the Texas Lawyers for Texas Veterans program.

Since the first Veterans Legal Clinic was held in 2009, Mike and Dustin have regularly counseled veterans at the monthly clinics and provided veterans with post-clinic representation in a variety of legal matters:

  • Expunctions/Orders of Non-Disclosure
  • Wills
  • Divorce Decrees
  • Billing disputes
  • Criminal charges (e.g., DART fare evasion tickets, disorderly conduct)
  • Child support and custody modification (Trial)
  • Mortgage modification
  • Breach of contract (Trial and Appellate)
  • Social Security benefits appeal
